Malaysia Visa for Nigerians: All you need to know

The Federation of Malaysia is one beautiful country on the continent of Asia. It is a combination of 11 states and 2 federal territories. Its capital is Kuala Lumpur. The capital has the two largest skyscrapers in the world. The official language in Malaysia is Malay, but Malaysian English is widely spoken. Malaysian’s currency is Malaysian ringgit.
Citizens of Nigeria need a visa in order to gain entry into Malaysia.

Malaysia Visa Types

Depending on the purpose of travel, there are different Malaysia visa options available. There are two major types of visas and they are:
  1. Visa Without Reference (VWTR)
  2. Visa With Reference (VWR)

The Visa Without Reference (VWTR)

The visa without reference is a type of Malaysian visa issued to persons who intend to visit Malaysia to study, visit a family relative, go through Malaysia to another country, or just take a tour. It is the most popular category of visas. The visas in this category include Study visas, Transit visas, Family visas, and Tourist visas.

The Visa With Reference (VWR)

The VWR is granted to only persons with business related intentions, investors, and entrepreneurs.
The visa is issued only by the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

Malaysia Visa Without Reference Requirements

The following documents are necessary for a Malaysia VWR application:
  1. A valid Nigerian passport – valid for 6 months. The passport should have at least two free pages for visa stickers.
  2. Two (2) copies of duly filled Malaysian visa application form – Form IMM.47
  3. Two (2) passport-sized photographs
  4. Visa application fee receipt
  5. An invitation letter from Malaysian sponsor – (for visit visas)
  6. Bank financial statement in the last 3 months

Requirements for Malaysia Student Visa

For student visa applicants, the following documents must be added.
  1. Offer letter from your chosen educational institution approved by the pass & permit division in the Immigration Headquarters of Malaysia.
  2. Proof of full-time course of study approved by the Minister of Home Affairs
  3. Health Certificate
  4. An original and clear copy of the highest obtained educational qualification certificate.
  5. Eligibility Letter from the Ministry of Education of Nigeria.

Malaysia Visa With Reference Requirements

  1. Original and two (2) copies of approval letter from Department of Immigration Malaysia
  2. A valid Nigerian passport – valid for 6 months. It should have at least two (2) free pages for visa stickers.
  3. Two (2) copies of duly filled Malaysian visa application form – Form IMM.47
  4. Two (2) passport-sized photographs
  5. Visa application fee receipt
  6. Valid and confirmed return flight ticket
This visa is valid for only 30 days and it is not extensible.

Malaysia Visa Application -How to Apply

Applications are submitted to Malaysia High Commission in Abuja. Applicants are advised to provide all required document to avoid unnecessary delays in processing their application.
  1. Applicants must know their ‘purpose of travel’
  2. Download and fill the visa application form
  3. Affix your passport photograph
  4. Visit the Malaysia High Commission to submit your application form and the other supporting documents at the Visa application center.
  5. Pay the visa application fee.
  6. Provide your biometric information
  7. Track the application online

Where to Get a Malaysia Visa Application Form

The normal Malaysia visa application forms can be downloaded from the embassy website and filled manually, and the e-visa form should be filled and submitted online.

How and Where to Pay Malaysia Visa Fees

Malaysia visa fees can be paid at the Visa application center with cash or via debit cards.
It is important to note that the visa processing fee is non-refundable.

Malaysia Visa Processing Time

The Malaysia visa processing time is usually between 4 to 6 working days from the day of submission.

Malaysian Visa Collection

The visa can be collected from 4 pm to 5 pm from Monday to Friday except on public holidays at the visa application centre.
